Truck Accidents and the Hours of Service Regulations
Because trucks can cause so much damage to other motorists when an accident occurs, truck drivers are required to follow more regulations than other motor vehicles to prevent accidents. Unfortunately, truck drivers are known to ignore these rules, sometimes out of negligence and sometimes at the pressure of the companies they drive for. Either way, accidents can happen as a result. One of these well-known truck driver specific rules, is called the hours of service regulation. These set of rules are aimed primarily at ensuring truckers have an adequate amount of rest, as drowsy driving is a major cause of accidents. According to these rules:
- Truck drivers can work up to 14 hours in a work
- Of these 14 hours, truckers can only drive for 11 hours. The remaining hours must be spent on rest or meal breaks.
- Truckers must rest for at least 10 consecutive hours before beginning a new day of work
- Truck drivers are required to take days off work at regular intervals
A Personal Stake in Holding Negligent Drivers Accountable
At the 805 Law Group, we truly understand what car crash victims are going through. Attorney William Ausman was hit by a drunk driver on Highway 46, known as Blood Alley. He was struck and his child was seriously injured. He suffered painful and serious injuries that required a lengthy recovery period. He held this negligent driver accountable and he can do the same for you.
We take a great deal of pride in holding negligent drivers accountable, particularly drunk drivers who cause serious auto accidents. We handle any personal injury caused by a drunk driver or driver cited for driving under the influence of alcohol pursuant to California Vehicle Code §23152(a) or 23152(b). We take action against drivers who were not paying attention to the road, who were texting, or who were talking on cell phones. You can be confident that we will fight to seek justice and the full compensation you deserve.
